Advanced Novice: A rider who is capable of mounting and dismounting unassisted from the ground, capable of applying basic aids, comfortable and in control at the walk, moderate length posting trots, and short canters.
Intermediate: A rider who has a firm seat, is confident and in control at all paces (including posting the trot, can hold a two point canter position and gallop), but does not ride regularly. Able to mount and dismount from the ground.
Advanced Intermediate: Meets intermediate requirements but is riding regularly, at least several times a week. They are also fit enough to ride for 6 hours per day.
Advanced Independent: All of the mentioned abilities, plus an independent seat, soft hands, and a desire to handle a hot or green horse in open country.
*Treks are not suitable for beginner riders or children.
